Non Neutral Plasma Physics Group

NNP - Activities - Projects - High Current Ion Beams

Objectives

Several experiments demand for ion beams with an intensity about few mA. A test facility with a small accelerator is under construction. Presently it consists of a volume type ion source with pentode extraction system, a low energy beam transport (LEBT) section and a vacuum chamber for different experiments.

An array of space charge lenses are installed and being investigated for the efficient transport of high perveance beams. The interaction of ion beam with confined electron cloud studies are attractive within accelerator physics community and non neutral plasma physics as well.

This will be further upgraded to achieve a beam energy range of about 50keV. The installation of IH-RFQ for medium energy beam transport (MEBT) section and construction of room temperature CH-DTL are planned in near future.

This setup is also a potential candidate for an injection line to the planned magnetostatic storage ring.
